Campaign Priorities:
Student Employment
Need for Student Employment
There are not enough scholarships for everyone, so many students these days must have a job in order to pay for tuition, books, food, and housing while attending school. The Pullman campus libraries help meet that need every year by hiring about 150 undergraduate and graduate students, making The Libraries one of WSU’s largest student employers.
Developing Life Skills
Student workers have a variety of responsible positions that require them to interact with the public, input crucial data, shelve books, design creative web pages, and help to digitize collections. For some students, their library jobs are their first real jobs, and they learn about expectations and demands, such as the importance of showing up on time and applying themselves diligently to assigned tasks. They will take the acquired skills into the job market when they leave WSU.

WSU Libraries use ePortfolios for Student Employee Growth
In today's competitive job market, it is imperative that WSU students have the opportunity to gain and market relevant employment skills during their college years. In 2008, the Washington State University Libraries became involved in the ePortfolio initiative. The WSU Libraries recognize the potential of the ePortfolio in fostering connections between a student's library employment, their educational endeavors, and their post-graduate aspirations. The ePortfolio project provides students the opportunity to navigate a tool that balances employability, accountability, and assessment, with self-expression and personal identity.
