RESOURCE SHARING WORKING GROUP
Role:
- To address issues related to providing the WSU community with materials that are not owned by the WSU Libraries.
- To address issues related to providing WSU Libraries' materials to other libraries.
- To coordinate interlibrary loan/resource sharing services campus-wide.
Membership to be appointed by LC:
- Interlibrary Loan Coordinator system-wide (Holland Library)
- One representative from Owen Science & Engineering Library (chosen by the unit)
- One representative from Health Sciences (chosen by the unit)
- One representative from Humanities/Social Sciences (chosen by the unit)
- One representative from the WSU urban campus libraries (chosen by the urban campus libraries)
- One representative from a Pullman campus circulation unit (chosen by Library Council after soliciting volunteers)
The 4 representative members who are chosen by the units serve 1-year terms. The representative member who is chosen by Library Council after soliciting volunteers serves a 2-year term.
Governance:
The Resource Sharing Working Group reports to the Assistant Director for Public Services & Outreach. The working group will select its own chair for a 6 month minimum term of office and will meet regularly or as needed. The group will coordinate its activities with other working groups and library departments, as warranted. Working groups will establish procedures and make policy within the scope of their responsibilities. Working groups are accountable for their decisions and are expected to share decisions with library colleagues using the standard working groups procedure. Any proposals generated by this working group that require state-allocated funds for implementation must be referred to Library Council for funding approval. Similarly, any proposals with very broad policy implications also need Library Council approval. The chair of the working group is expected to update Library Council on its activities on a regular basis.
Specific Charges:
- To develop consistent system-wide interlibrary loan/resource sharing policies.
- To develop standardized system-wide interlibrary loan/resource sharing processes, practices, and documentation system-wide.
- To coordinate the use of electronic systems, including Griffin, in order to make interlibrary loan/resource sharing services increasingly user oriented and efficient.
- To share information and expertise related to interlibrary loan/resource sharing issues with all library staff as appropriate.
- To address copyright issues, current and evolving, that pertain to library resource sharing.
