ACCESS SERVICES WORKING GROUP
ROLE:
- To address issues related to access of WSU collections by WSU patrons.
- To address issues related to access of non-WSU collections by WSU patrons.
- To address issues related to access of WSU collections by non-WSU patrons.
- To coordinate interlibrary loan/resource sharing services university-wide.
- To coordinate circulation services university-wide.
MEMBERSHIP: (To be appointed by LC)
- One representative from each urban campus: Spokane, ICN-Spokane, Vancouver, Tri-Cities
- Two representative reference librarians (one non-Holland)
- Representatives from each of the Pullman campus library units using the Circulation System:
- Ag Sci circ rep
- Architecture circ rep
- Education circ rep
- Animal Health and Sciences circ rep
- Holland Access Services rep
- Owen circ rep
- One representative for system-wide reserves
- Circulation system-wide coordinator (ex-officio)
- One Systems representative (ex-officio)
The representative members serve two-year terms
GOVERNANCE:
The Access Services Working Group reports to the Assistant Dean of Libraries.
The working group will select its own chair for a 6 month minimum term of office and will meet regularly
or as needed. The group will coordinate its activities with other working groups and library departments, as
warranted. Working groups will establish procedures and make policy within the scope of their
responsibilities. Working groups are accountable for their decisions and are expected to share decisions
with library colleagues using standard working group procedure. Any proposals generated by a working
group that require funding for implementation must be referred to Assistant Dean of Libraries for funding approval.
Similarly, any proposals with very broad policy implications also need Assistant Dean of Libraries approval. The chair
of the working group is expected to update Library Council on its activities on a regular basis.
SPECIFIC CHARGES:
- To develop consistent access services policies system-wide.
- To develop and maintain standardized processes, practices, and documentation system-wide.
- To coordinate the activities related to the use of Griffin and other electronic systems for access services
- To make all access services user-oriented and efficient.
- To insure that all access services staff develop expertise using the appropriate systems and are kept informed about upgrades and enhancements to these systems.
- To recommend enhancements to the appropriate systems used.
- To share information and expertise related to access services issues.
- To address copyright issues, current and evolving, which pertain to access services.
