VLADIVOSTOK: A HISTORIC WALKING TOUR

  KORABELNO-NABEREZHNAYA EMBANKMENT

MONUMENT TO THE FIRST
SETTLERS

In 1985, architect B. Bogomolov’s fourteen-meter stele (just over 43 feet) was erected to commemorate Vladivostok’s first settlers.  It resembles the prow of the sailing-vessel Manchur, which brought the first group of forty officers and men under Ensign N. Komarov, of the 3rd East-Siberian Line Battalion, to this very spot (1860).  The anchors on each side of the stele increase the resemblance to a sailing vessel.
