[Item Description] WSU Graduate School Centennial Papers, 2000-2002
Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections, Washington State University Libraries, Pullman, WA.
Biography/History
Washington State University granted its first upper level degree in 1902, ten years after offering its first classes. Its first PhD followed in 1929. The school’s Graduate School supports and oversees those upper level courses and programs.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of papers created or collected between 2000 and 2002 for the centennial of Washington State University’s Graduate School. The papers document the work of the steering committee as well as the events the anniversary tied to. The papers also provide broad secondary source data on the history of each degree offered at WSU, the first individuals and/or the first women to receive advanced degrees in each program, the numbers of degrees granted, as well as biographies of select individuals who were WSU “firsts.”
Arrangement
The collection is ordered alphabetically by subject. One small subseries of significant individuals exists, and is also ordered alphabetically. One folder of materials relevant to the donation to the archives of the papers is housed at the end.
