- Abstract
- Papers, dating from 1944-1950, consist mostly of casualty lists and other lists of the men from WSC who served in World War II. Collection also includes letters from servicemen in World War I which were printed in a column entitled "WSC Men Over There".
Historical Sketch:
This collection dates primarily from the 1940's and reflects the efforts of the University to collect information on students and alumni who served in World War II. Correspondence from the President's office consists of letters sent to families regarding tributes which the University sent them and letters requesting photographs needed to make up a brochure on those who served in World War II. Both these series of correspondence include letters from the families to the president. In the correspondence about the brochure there is also a photograph of each serviceman. The Registrar's office kept a file of newspaper clippings on the activities of all students and alumni who served in the war; there is occasional correspondence included. This series comprises the bulk of material in the collection. A small but interesting series is the correspondence from servicemen to the assistant editor of the Agriculturalist in which they recount their experiences. The only material from World War I is newspaper clippings.
Arrangement note
The first two series of correspondence regarding the tribute and the photographs for the brochure are arranged alphabetically by last name of servicemen. The last two are arranged chronologically. The papers dating from 1944-1940 consist mostly of casualty lists and other lists of the men who served in World War II.
The first series of newspapers clippings consists of letters from servicemen in World War I which were printed in a column entitled "WSC Men Over There". The last two series of clippings are arranged alphabetically by last name of servicemen.
