Biography/History
William Henry Jackson was a photographer of the U.S. West who was invited to join an 1871 geological survey of Yellowstone and the Rockies. Jackson's photographs, together with Thomas Moran's paintings, were instrumental in convincing Congress to preserve Yellowstone as the first U.S. National Park in 1872.
Scope and Content
Eight photographs printed on paper and mounted on 11"x14" card stock. The images are all of Yellowstone park, and were originally taken by William Henry Jackson in 1871-1872. There were likely printed in the 1870s or 1880s.
Arrangement
The images appear to be taken from five different publications, or image sets. Images from common sets are grouped together, in no particular order.
