Irwin Nash
Photographs of Yakima Valley Migrant Labor, 1967-1976

The Irwin Nash Photographs were purchased directly from Irwin Nash in April of 1991 for $5950, which included funds from the Office of the President and from the College of Science and Arts. The purchase included copyright and all literary and intellectual property rights. The collection came to MASC as 319 rolls of 35 mm film, from which contact sheets were created. This guide to the collection was created in 2006 by Ryli Clark and Trevor James Bond.

BIOGRAPHY

Irwin Nash is a commercial photographer who resided in Seattle as of 1991.

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

The collection consists primarily of black and white contact prints depicting migrant labor and life in Washington's Yakima Valley between 1967 and 1976. The collection is organizaed by format: prints, negatives, contact prints (the bulk of the images), and 35 mm negatives that correspond to the contact print sheets. MASC staff utilized descriptions provided by Nash, but enhanced the information and arranged the contact sheets so that most places and subjects were brought together. This page broadly describes individual contact sheets (or sets of sheets), and each sheet usually has about 20 different images. A more detailed listing of each sheet's contents exists in pdf format.

A small sampling of images from this collection have been digitized and can be found online in the Irwin Nash Digital Collection.
