Scope and Content

This collection consists of donated scrapbooks, generally created by students during their time at Washington State College. Scrapbooks can include newspaper clippings, programs, ephemera, photographs, and other materials; the nature of each scrapbook varies by creator. In general, they document aspects of student life including housing, social activities, athletics, and other activities. Some also contain materials from high school or post-graduation, as well as vacation activities. Scrapbooks are maintained in no particular order. This is an open collection, and further scrapbooks are being added as they are received at MASC.

Marie Larson Rodkey scrapbook (no. 1 of 2), 1941-1942. Primarily newspaper clippings and activity programs. Donated 2018 by daughter Sharon Smith.

Marie Larson Rodkey scrapbook (no. 2 of 2), 1942-1944. Primarily newspaper clippings, music and theatre programs, and ephemera. Ms. Larson was active in music and radio, and many of the materials relate to those fields. President Holland’s retirement is well-documented. Donated 2018 by daughter Sharon Smith.

Dorothy "Dottie" Hall scrapbook, 1942-1946. Primarily ephemera. Includes Wesleyan Foundation, war efforts, general campus materials, and a small amount of material relating to the war death of her fiance, Jim Gamble. Purchased 2021 from a Seattle area bookseller; earlier provenance unknown.

Catharine A. Ralston (later Cannon) scrapbook, 1922-1925. First half is ephemera, including dance cards, programs, and sorority (Kappa Kappa Gamma) related materials. Second half is undated, unlabeled photographs, primarily personal sorority life, apparently same date range. Donated 2022.
