Biography/History

Robert W. Shields was a schoolteacher, businessman, and minister of the First Congregational Church in Dayton, Washington. He kept a diary of his life from 1970 to 1997, recording daily 4000 words of every action, deed, opinion, and thought. The diary ends in 1997, when he suffered a stroke. (Source: Robert and Grace Shields Library Endowment agreement, 1999)

Robert Shields died in 2007.

This collection consists of the diary and personal papers of Robert Shields. The diary is estimated to contain approximately 37.5 million words. The personal papers include correspondence, memorabilia, and various collected materials.
