Biography/History

Dr. Paul A. Klavano (1919-2015) was born in Valley, Washington, to Peter Klavano and Florence Meyer. In 1941, he received a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington State College (later Washington State University), and became a faculty member at WSC after earning a Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine in 1944. The following year, Klavano married Martha Havighurst. The couple remained in Pullman and served as active members of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Pullman Rotary Club. After serving as Chairman of the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Pharmacology as well as a WSU faculty member for over 40 years, Klavano retired from WSU in 1986. The Dr. Paul A. Klavano Pharmacology and Physiology Laboratory was created in Wegner Hall in honor of his service to the college, and today the WSU Foundation honors students with the Dr. Paul A. Klavano Pharmacology Award.
