Biography/History

The American Society for Range Management was officially formed in 1948 (named changed to Society for Range Management or SRM in 1970) to provide educational services to promote a better understanding of rangeland stewardship to its members and the public. The Pacific Northwest Chapter of the SRM was approved in 1949.

Scope and Content

This collection includes papers and materials for the Pacific Northwest section of the Society for Range Management (SRM), from 1950 to 2000. It consists of meeting minutes, council records, and reports for the planning committee, professional affairs committee, curriculum committee, student affairs committee, and public affairs committee, individual chapters' by-laws, copies of the Article of Incorporation, as well as financial records including: bank statements, audit reports, accounting ledgers, and cancelled checks. The collection also contains papers pertaining to youth camps and programs, land planning commissions, exhibits and displays, range land research, fundraising events, membership directories, and a technology park. Additionally, the collection includes: a journal, booklets, maps, and photographs concerning the SRM summer range tours, SRM handbooks, their newsletter "The Trail Boss", incoming and outgoing correspondence, as well as projector slides and several maps of the Pacific Northwest showing land use, locations of rangeland, potential native vegetation, miscellaneous posters, and maps for the Washington Range Land Assessment.
