Biography/History
Charles Edward Argersinger (1951-2013) was born in Schenectady, NY, and grew up in Arizona. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in music from Arizona State University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He taught at Cal State Bakersfield and DePaul University before joining the faculty at Washington State University. While at WSU, he founded the WSU Festival of Contemporary Art Music in 1989. He retired from WSU in 2009.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of musical compositions and arrangements by Charles Argersinger. It includes two main genres: jazz and contemporary art music. The type and amount of material varies for specific works; in many cases, there is a full score, parts, and other documentation; in others, the contents are fragmentary or incomplete.
Arrangement
This collection is arranged in two series:
Series 1. Contemporary Art Music compositions.
Series 2: Jazz compositions and arrangements.
Within each series, the compositions arranged alphabetically by title. Because items vary in size and many are large formats, most are located in the oversized containers (boxes 4-12).
