Biography/History

Beginning in the 1890s, Whitman County, Washington has been the home of several Granges. This collection includes records from Granges in Ewartsville (#114), established in 1899, State College (#652), established in 1917, Whelan (#117), established in 1899 and re-chartered in 1908, Garfield (LaDow Grange, #995), established in 1931, and Tekoa (#1011), established in 1935. An earlier Tekoa Grange (#195) was established in 1906, but became inactive in 1917.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of records of Granges located in Whitman County, Washington. It includes records from Granges in Ewartsville (#114), established in 1899, Pullman (State College Grange #652), established in 1917, Whelan (#117), established in 1899 and re-chartered in 1908, Garfield (LaDow Grange, #995), established in 1931, and Tekoa (#1011), established in 1935.

Box 1. State College Grange #652: record books, including minutes, 1917-1949 (5 volumes); Grange manuals (1909 and 1917), photographs, and miscellaneous material.

Boxes 2-3. State College Grange (continued) and Whelan Grange #117. State College Grange list of charter members; Whelan Grange: record books, including minutes, 1902-1973 (11 volumes); Juvenile Grange records.

Box 4. Ewartsville Grange #114 and LaDow Grange #995. Ewartsville: Scrapbook, 1989-1999; yearbooks, 1958-1998; notebooks, 1990s; unlabeled binder, 1940s-1990s; unlabeled historical material (newspaper clippings, photographs, etc.); treasurer's book, 1899; officers roll book, 1930-1933; "Grange Film C. B. Kegley" (photographs); roll book, 1899-1905; dues account, 1916-1920; Juvenile Grange, 1960s. LaDow: minutes and mixed documents, 2007-2012.

Box 5. LaDow Grange (continued): record books, including minutes, 1913-1918 and 1950-1993 (10 volumes).

Boxes 6-7. Tekoa Grange #1011: record books, including minutes, 1935-1996 (13 volumes); roll book; past masters books; binder with articles of incorporation and history of Tekoa Grange; Juvenile Grange records, 1938-1948.
