Keith Hoofnagle is a Washington State native who grew up in the Puget Sound area. After high school, he attended the Burnley School of Art (now the Seattle Art Institute), and he continued his studies between 1960 and 1970 as an art major at Washington State University. He left WSU to join the National Park Service, where he worked as a visual information specialist until his retirement in 1994. A prolific cartoonist, he is the creator of The Story of Linda Lookout, a history of fire lookouts told through cartoons, and Rangeroons, a recurring comic strip published in newsletters of the National Park Service and featured in other NPS publications.
