Biography/History
Ray Moree (1913-1998) was born in Ellensburg, WA. He attended Washington State College from 1932-1937, receiving a Bachelor's degree in Zoology. He then attended the University of Michigan for graduate school, where he received a Ph.D. in Zoology in 1942. He married Marie L. Savage (1910-2011) of Ann Arbor, MI, in 1941. The couple moved to Pullman, WA, where Ray served as a professor of Zoology at Washington State College (later Washington State University) from 1942 to 1977. He remained in Pullman until his death in 1998.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of professional and personal papers, most pertaining to Ray Moree's work as a Zoologist at Washington State College (later Washington State University). The collection contains research records and professional correspondence, as well as personal documents including a 1941 autobiography, correspondence with his wife, Marie Moree, from 1943 to 1981, and a diary documenting his service in the Civilian Conservation Corps. The collection also contains materials apparently unrelated to Ray Moree, pertaining to the Pullman Women’s Golf Club from 1949 to 1963, correspondence of John "Jack" Hayden from 1932 to 1945, and papers of Max Hinrichs.
