Biography/History
Most of this collection centers around Archie Irwin (1882-1962) and his relatives. In the 1890s, his family moved to Elberton, Washington, where his father worked as a blacksmith. Archie Irwin remained in the Elberton area as an adult, and worked at a variety of jobs. He practiced amateur photography, documenting scenes, events, and people of Elberton during the first decade of the 20th century.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of papers of the Irwin family, mainly Archie Irwin (1882-1962), and other residents of Elberton, WA. It includes correspondence, a small amount of material related to a contested 1907 Elberton town election, minutes and other records of a fraternal organization, the Coming Men of America (Whitman Jr. Lodge 2018, Elberton), high school yearbooks, and a reminiscence about early 20th-century Elberton by Dora Wells Banning. Most of the correspondence consists of incoming letters to Archie Irwin. Other correspondents include other members of the Irwin family, and Frankie Morgan Ewing, Eli Ewing, Helen Ewing, and Jim Flannigan.>
