Biographical/Historical note
The League for the Promotion of Militant Atheism (LPMA) was a campus organization formed by Professor Paul Brians, a professor of English at Washington State University. The goal of the group was to counter the advances and arguments of conservative Christian groups on campus, namely Campus Crusade. The organization distributed leaflets and engaged in scheduled public debates with evangelical speakers.
Scope and Contents note
This collection consists of papers related to the League for the Promotion of Militant Atheism at Washington State University. These papers are in two general forms, first, newspaper photocopies from the Daily Evergreen, the Washington State University student newspaper, and the Daily Idahonian of Moscow, Idaho. Second, the collection contains a number of copies of the leaflets distributed by the LPMA, as well as one of the organization's buttons, featuring their logo.
