Scope and Content
This collection consists of a set of rubbings (lithograph crayon and heelball on paper) of tombstones from several cemeteries along the coast of Maine, made in 1977. The specific tombstones were selected as a general representation of stone cutting and engraving in early America, and typical symbolism used for tombstones.
