Biography/History
Richard Holland (1542? 1547?-1619) of Denton, Lancashire was married to Katherine Ramsden. Their daughter Mary married Adam Eccleston. Another daughter, Elizabeth, married John Preston.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a single item: a manuscript indenture, written on a single membrane of parchment (30 x 59 cm), documenting a transaction related to Singleton Grange in Lancashire, England. Adam Eccleston sold or leased the property to his father-in-law, Richard Holland, possibly as part of a marriage settlement in 1597. The verso of the document contains several signatures, including that of John Preston, another of Richard Holland's sons-in-law.
The document has a remnant of a wax seal, and is written in a Tudor secretary hand. At the time the collection was processed, only the first few lines had been deciphered and transcribed.
