Biography/History
Cornelis Dirksz van Foreest (1704-1761) was a wealthy landowner and the mayor of Hoorn, in the northern Netherlands. In 1750, he became the governor of the Dutch East India Company in Hoorn.
Scope and Content
This collection consists of a single item: the translation from Low Dutch to English of an extract from the Last Will and Testament of Cornelis Dirksz van Foreest, written on one membrane of parchment (approximately 49 x 46.5 cm). The extract only contains van Foreest's public funds, credit, and chattel in Great Britain. The original will was written in 1746 and the translation was done in 1767.
