Biography/History

Dr. Eugene Clark was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on July 21, 1917. Following the completion of undergraduate work, he studied economics at Harvard University and was awarded a doctorate in 1941. He was employed as both educator and consultant to the Federal Reserve Board before coming to Washington State University in 1957. Dr. Clark served as Dean of the College of Business and Economics at WSU from 1958 to 1978. During his tenure as Dean, Dr. Clark took an active interest in the affairs of the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB); his papers reflect that interest. The AACSB actively seeks educational links between leading American businessmen and universities and regularly publishes the addresses delivered at its annual convention.

Arrangement

The papers have been arranged into six series: Correspondence; Minutes and Proceedings; Committees; AACSB Activities; Financial Reports; and Printed Material. The first series, Correspondence, covers the period 1969 through 1974 and includes correspondence with the national headquarters in St. Louis and various board members throughout the nation. Much of the correspondence for 1974 relates to obtaining guest lecturers for the annual convention. Correspondence is arranged chronologically.

The second series, Minutes and Proceedings, contains the minutes and proceedings of the annual meetings arranged chronologically from 1958 through 1974. The third series, Committees, deals with those committees on which Dr. Clark served between 1966-1972; they are arranged alphabetically by the committee name. Considerable material in this series relates to the Standards Committee. The fourth series, AACSB Activities, consists of association projects and member services arranged alphabetically by subject, covering the period 1968 through 1972. The fifth series consists of financial reports from 1963 to 1970. Printed material, in the form of the organization's constitution and convention addresses, may be found at the end of the collection.
