Biography/History
Dr. Joseph David Leuty (1874-1955) was a physician in Farmington, Washington where he lived with his wife, Charlotta Pearl Rector Leuty (1878-1973). They were married on January 9, 1901 and had four children, only two of whom lived to adulthood. In 1900, the Washington State Medical Examining Board granted Leuty his license to practice medicine in Whitman County, Washington. Following this, Leuty completed medical courses at the New York Post-Graduate Medical School (1906-1910) and the New York Polyclinic Medical School and Hospital (1910-1911). He was later elected a fellow of the Washington State Medical Association in May 1927 after being a member in good standing for 20 years.
Scope and Content
This collection contains a single item: a handwritten pharmacy ledger from Farmington, Washington, dated 1909-1910, probably maintained by Dr. Joseph David Leuty (1874-1955), the town's physician.
The majority of the book is dedicated to recording the treatments administered to patients, along with the cost and, occasionally, their form of payment. The ledger is organized by patient names, with each page dedicated to a single individual and the prescriptions dispensed to them.
