Biography/History

Educator and author Paul Brians earned his B.A. from Pacific University (1964), and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Indiana University (1966, 1968). He joined the Washington State University English Department faculty in 1968 as an Assistant Professor, earned promotion to Associate Professor (1977), full Professor (1988), and retired in 2008. He was also a member of the faculty of the World Civilizations program. He is the author of several books, including Common Errors in English Usage (2003) and Nuclear Holocausts: Atomic War in Fiction, 1895-1984 (1987). He has published many articles in a wide variety of scholarly and popular journals, and is a prolific photographer who has published and exhibited his photographs, and contributed several hundred items to the World Civilizations Image Collection, a digital collection hosted by the WSU Libraries.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of papers of Paul Brians, primarily professional materials related to his teaching and research, and his career as a member of the Washington State University English Department faculty, as well as some papers related to social activism during the 1970s. It includes correspondence, research files, and audiovisual materials (VHS, DVD).
