Historical Data:
The Department of Speech of Washington State University, established in 1923, has produced numerous plays since 1925 as a function of that department. Maynard Lee Daggy headed the Speech Department from its inception in 1923 until 1946 and directed ma ny of the earlier productions. Departmental theatrical finances, publicity, and publications were the responsibility of the University Theater office located in Bryan Hall. In the early 1970s a new site for University Theater productions and the Departm ent of Speech was constructed and subsequently named Daggy Hall.
Arrangement note
The records of the University Theater are arranged chronologically by date of production, maintaining their original order. Each folder is labeled with the production name and production dates. A folder for undated material has been placed at the end of the accession. The records date from 1925 to 1965, but the bulk of the records date from 1935 to 1965. The accession contains invoices and ticket-sales records for stage productions, as well as programs, posters, correspondence, and other papers. For additional information on the University Theatre, see: Archives 105. Archives 105 contains WSU theatre records dating from 1965 through 1978.
