History:
A University Architect has served as the construction officer at Washington State University since 1911. The modern form of the office dates from 1947 when it became a full-time, staffed administrative department. In 1967 the office was renamed as Facilities Planning, and later as Facilities Development and still later as Capital Planning. It is responsible for the major construction projects of the university.
Scope and Content
The records consist of correspondence, reports, bidding records and other document related to the work of architects and construction contractors.
Arrangement
Records of Facilities Planning are arranged according to the building number system that identifies most structures owned by Washington State University. The archival arrangement follows office practice without variance.
Locating records relevant to a specific project normally requires having the building number available.
