W.S.U. Speech Department Debate Team
Photographs, 1928-1957

The WSU Debate Team Photos were transferred to the Washington State University Libraries in November 1986 (UA 86-37) by the Speech Department. The photos were processed in December 1986 and January 1987 by Carol Lichtenberg.

ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

Interest in debate began fairly early in the history of Washington State University. The first intercollegiate debates were held in 1899; Whitman College and the University of Washington were the opposing teams. In the following years other contestants usually included the University of Idaho and Oregon State.

The materials in this collection document the teams from 1928-1958.

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

The collection consists primarily of Washington State University Debate Team photos arranged chronologically by school year. Score sheets denoting team wins and losses are also enclosed. There is one folder containing two newspaper clippings.
