SYSTEMS ADVISORY WORKING GROUP -- DISBANDED 9-11-02
Role:
- To share information to insure a coordinated approach to computing at WSU Libraries
- To address issues related to computing priorities as they relate to library-wide goals
- To coordinate issues related to the libraries Innovative Interfaces Inc. (III) online system as a whole
- To coordinate issues related to WSU participation in the Innovative Users Group (IUG)
Membership to be appointed by Library Council:
- Systems Librarian
- Griffin System Administrator
- One representative from Bibliographic Control
- One representative from Acquisitions
- One representative each from the following Working Groups:
- Circulation
- Collections
- Government Information
- Resource Sharing
- Serials
- Library Instruction/Reference
- Web
- One representative from Branch Campus libraries
The representative members serve one year terms. Because this WG has so
many representatives from other Working Groups, the Systems Advisory WG will
start its term in August rather than in July.
Governance:
The working group will select its own chair for an appropriate term of office and will meet regularly or as needed. The group will coordinate its activities with other working groups and library departments, as warranted. Working groups will establish procedures and make policy within the scope of their responsibilities. Working groups are accountable for their decisions and are expected to share decisions with library colleagues using the standard working groups procedure. Any proposals generated by a working group that require funding for implementation must be referred to Library Council for funding approval. Similarly, any proposals with very broad policy implications also need Library Council approval. The chair of the working group is expected to update Library Council on its activities on a regular basis.
Specific Charges:
- Coordinate the development of an overall plan for computing at WSU Libraries
- Assist the Systems office in prioritizing major hardware/software purchase requests
- Coordinate selection of attendees to the IUG annual meeting
- Ensure dissemination of information from the IUG annual meeting
- Coordinate presentation of enhancements to III and the IUG
- Work with Library Advancement Working Group on grants relating to the Libraries system overall and other hardware/software needs
- Work with the Employees Development Working Group on training as appropriate
