PRIVACY POLICY TASK FORCE
Appointed by LC 1/8/03
Role: To develop policies related to the protection of confidential patron information in the WSU Libraries;
Membership (appointed by Library Council 1/8/03 after soliciting volunteers):
- Interim Assistant Director for Public Services & Outreach: Scott Walter
- One branch campus representative: Leslie Wykoff
- Members of the WSU Libraries faculty and staff representing a range of WSUL units and functions (chosen by LC after soliciting volunteers): Eileen Brady, Cindy Ellis, Carol Robinson, Laila Vejzovic, Marilyn Von Seggern, Lihong Zhu
Charge:
- To identify existing WSUL policies and procedures related to privacy of patron information and retention of patron information;
- To identify a clear reporting structure and chain of custody for use in the event of a request for patron information under the USA PATRIOT Act or any other similar legislation;
- To develop a training program for faculty, staff, and students that will apprise them of such policies and alert them to the reporting structure and chain of custody established by the Libraries; and,
- To establish a dialogue in consultation and collaboration with the Assistant Directors and the Director on issues related to release of information with campus units such as Information Technology and the Attorney General, as well as with other local libraries and information service providers in close geographical proximity to any of the 4 major WSU campuses (e.g., Neill Public Library, Latah County Libraries, Fort Vancouver Regional Libraries).
