Biography/History
Beasley Coliseum was completed in 1973. It both serves as the University's primary indoor sports venue and hosts presentations by visiting speakers and theatrical groups, as well as hosting campus functions such as convocations and lectures.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of reel-to-reel audio recordings of presentations held at Beasley Coliseum. The collection is far from comprehensive, but does include notable figures such as two time Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling, and former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson. Also of particular interest are a number of noted journalism figures from WSU's annual Murrow Symposium. Not all tracks on all tapes have been recorded on, while other tracks contain multiple presentations and some recordings continue, or are duplicated on, subsequent tracks. Blank tracks are not noted on the contents listings below.
Arrangement
The collection is listed in a loose chronological order (necessarily 'loose' as most tapes include multiple presentations, each from different dates), with the two standard format tapes preceding the four track tapes.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
While the first two tapes are in the most common reel-to-reel format, tapes 3 to 12 are four track reels, often recorded at unusual speeds. Due to these odd formats, most of these cannot be played on standard reel-to-reel machines. MASC received an Otari MX5050 BQII recorder with these tapes which can play the majority of them, but any reproduction of these will likely involve conversion to another format.
