- This collection contains published and unpublished research by William D. Lipe, a professor of Archaeology at Washington State University from 1976-1981.
Biography/History
William D. Lipe was a professor of Archaeology in Washington State University's (WSU) Department of Anthropology starting in 1976. Dr. Lipe earned his PhD from Yale in 1969 performing research in the Glen Canyon area of southeastern Utah. Lipe also performed research amongst Pueblo settlements in southern Colorado. Prior to working at WSU, Lipe worked at the Museum of Northern Arizona and Binghamton University in New York.
Scope and Content
This collection contains published and unpublished research by William D. Lipe, a professor of Archaeology at Washington State University from 1976-1981. The collection consists primarily of articles, chapters, presentations, and conference papers authored by Lipe from 1960-1981. Specific topics include settlements in Southeast Utah, Southern Colorado, abandoned Anasazi settlements, and professional education in archaeology. There are also drafts of book chapters about Southwestern archaeology. Many of the drafts contain Lipe's revisions and some of the files contain correspondence from editors and other contributors to Lipe's research. In addition the collection contains photographs of archaeological sites and maps and charts related to Lipe's writing.
