Biographical/Historical note
Paul Louis Beckett (1913-1995) was a Professor of Political Science at Washington State University from 1947 to 1977. Dr. Beckett was born October 18, 1913, in Warren County, Illinois. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1935 at Monmouth College, a Master of Arts at the University of Illinois in 1938, and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1949.
Scope and Contents note
This collection consists of professional papers of Paul Louis Beckett. It includes incoming and outgoing correspondence from 1945 to 1980 pertaining to the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA), the International Studies Association, the Organization of the Comparative Interdisciplinary Studies Section (CISS), the Comparative Administration Group (CAG), Public Affairs Conferences, the Western Political Science Association, and the Committee on State Government Organization. The collection also contains papers related to Beckett's work in Pakistan, including reports on the topics of public administration, public housing settlement, planning and departmental development organizations, and village aid. Additionally, the collection contains political science talk radio transcripts, and manuscripts and files for Beckett's book From Wilderness to Enabling Act: The Evolution of the State of Washington, published in 1968.
