Biography/History

John B. Strander, a 1942 graduate of Lakeside School in Seattle, attended Washington State College for three semesters beginning in the fall of 1942. He earned a bachelor's degree in horticulture at Cornell University in 1947, and began a long career in Tukwila as a landscape architect and nurseryman, operating Strander Evergreen Nurseries from 1947 to 1967. He was a civic leader in Tukwila, serving as a planning commissioner and later as mayor.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of two bound volumes of notes, with typed and handwritten text, illustrations, course readings, and insertions. The notes cover John Strander's three semesters as a student at Washington State College. His courses and activities included Agricultural Engineering, Applied Entomology in Agriculture, Introductory Sociology, General Inorganic Chemistry in Industry, Contemporary Poetry, Agricultural Orientation, Elementary Landscape Design, Flower Arranging, Commercial Truck Gardening, General Horticulture, and Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC).
