Arrangement

The Icis M. White Papers are arranged in two series, the first of which is the diary set. These volumes form an incomplete run from 1945 to 1973. From 1945 to 1949 they are only simple account books that show White's receipts from employment, chicken egg production, and goat's milk sales. Beginning in 1953, she includes brief notes of visits with friends and other activities. By 1957, she writes in more detail about daily activities. She includes itemized lists for daily expenses, notes friends who called on her and those on whom she called, and describes briefly each day's weather conditions. The second series in the papers is comprised miscellaneous documents from widely scattered dates. These include letters from White's first husband, J. E. Hotchkiss; letters from a longtime friend, Sibyl Marks; and letters to and from White's relatives, the Morrisons and the Crawfords. Other records are I.O.O.F. membership documents for White's brother, Alvin Morrison, and treasurer's records for a local chapter of the Townsend Club, an organization popularized during the Great Depression of the 1930s by Dr. Francis Townsend to promote universal old age pensions.
