Biographical/Historical note

Joseph Lee Ashlock (1880-1961) was born in Iowa and moved to Walla Walla, Washington at the age of five. By 1910, Ashlock was living in Pullman, Washington. He became a journalist in Whitman County, Washington and on August 11, 1932, he began publishing a series of articles titled, "One Minute to Think."

Scope and Contents note

This collection consists of Joseph Lee Ashlock's literary reminiscences of his eastern Washington childhood, short stories, character sketches, and newspaper clippings. The materials date from 1936 to 1957. Amongst his reminiscences is a rough table of contents providing topics and events of the manuscript and their corresponding page numbers. Short stories include: "Ka Steps Up" and "The Seventh Cougar Skin." Record of Ashlock's journalism career includes a series of articles he wrote on a variety of subjects, all under the series name, "One Minute to Think." Also includes a wedding announcement and newspaper articles collected by Ashlock.
