Biographical/Historical note
Dr. Noe Higinbotham (1913-1980) was a Professor of Botany at Washington State University from 1948 to 1980. Dr. Higinbotham received his Bachelor's from Butler University in 1935, an additional degree from John Hopkins University in 1937, and his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1940. Before coming to WSU, Dr. Higinbotham served as a professor at the University of Notre Dame from 1945 to 1947. Dr. Higinbotham's research focused on algal taxonomy, plant morphology and developmental morphology, plant physiology, and ion transport. Dr. Higinbotham also served as the journal editor of Plant Physiological, published over fifty articles, and received grants from the National Science Foundation and the Atomic Energy Commission. WSU currently gives out a fellowship in Botany in Dr. Higinbotham's memory.

This collection contains professional and personal papers of Dr. Noe Higinbotham (1913-1980), a Professor of Botany at Washington State University from 1948 to 1980. The collection includes incoming and outgoing correspondence, research files, professional association files, collected printed material, photographs, diplomas, awards, and other certificates. Correspondents include Dr. Antonio Pena, Dr. Hidde B. A. Prins, Dr. Ulrich Lüttge, Dr. John Gardner, Dr. J. B. Hanson, Dr. Robert B. James, Dr. Alan Koch.
